Marigold
This traditional print depicts a yellow-orange flower called the marigold, a strongly scented bloom that in the Hindu tradition symbolises the energy of the sun.

Iris
This colourful print depicts a lush, imaginary natural world. The carved wooden block used to produce this design dates back to the Indian chintz tradition of the 16th century.

Paul Hannong
This flower is printed on fabric using a wooden block reproducing a very distinctive motif that we fell in love with: it comes from the ceramic plates of the Hannong family of Strasbourg potters, dating to the late 18th century.

Pomegranate
This design featuring a stylised tulip, birds and pomegranates — symbols of abundance — shows the Ottoman influence on the Indian textile tradition.
The printing process
Samarcand
This print was brought to India by Persian decorators who arrived at the court of the Mughal Emperors. Each of its stamped versions requires the superimposition of 6 to 9 carved wooden blocks.

Tulip
The Ottomans greatly admired the tulip design and between the 15th and 17th centuries promoted its cultivation. The tulip spread to India through the Turco-Mongol dynasty in the 16th century.

Upupa
We fell in love with this migratory bird with its slender beak, striking crest and black-and-white striped plumage, which inhabits the Roman countryside. In the Arab tradition, the hoopoe is a symbol of wisdom.
